Eons ago there was a day called Thursday. In units of days, it was three days ago. Everything about that Thursday seems to continue.
Yesterday I woke up at 6:30am to the squabble of chickens to see on of them standing on the edge of their box with a “What, didn’t think chickens could fly?” look. I was sure I was awake now, but having had long days for a while I did manage to sleep more. At 8:30 I was up, woke up Colin on the couch and we drove over to Goodwill for the 9am opening and their special bicycle sale. There were hordes at the door and as we meandered in behind them the scene was gruesome with everyone grabbing bikes even before they knew they wanted them to ensure they got the good deals. It was just like shopping at Goodwill Outlet at opening, but for a bunch of un-tuned machinery with old parts. Eventually we managed to get out past the traffic jams of bikes and people.
After dropping him off on Capitol Hill, I made it to The Highline for some breakfast and chatted with Howie. Then back to Georgetown to start packing the truck for the days activities. Over to Home Depot for a few tools that I’ve been needing for farming, then up to Rockit at 11am to get ready for the cropmob. Good times were had in the sun, working, some eating, and chatting. I made a trip out to drop off clean greens at the AA site nearby and more work and chatting followed. All in all, some good work. I had invited Jessie to come hang out Sunday and talk chicken coops, but she had other plans organizing events.
Then up to the AA site at 5:30pm to do farm chores and await two people from a collective cafe who are filming a documentary about collectives and wanted to interview us about ours. Sean and I talked for a while about the line between our friends that were too busy organizing to hang out, and those who are too busy drinking to make it out to anything we organize. There’s a shift, for sure, but I welcome that many of the people I spend time with now can’t chill because they’re doing amazing work. By 8:30 most was done and I headed home for some dinner. I finally watched The Garden, which Andy had recommended, and caught up on a few more emails before sleep.
